How does billing for text messaging work?

Optional SMS features are billed separately at $0.02 per SMS sent or received.

When sending a text message to multiple volunteers, each person the message is sent to counts as a separate message. Messages over 160 characters will also count as multiple messages.

Billing for text messaging can be found by going to the Client Login page and clicking on SMS account. If you have never opened your account, you will see a message that reads:

VSP can automatically send text message (SMS) reminders to volunteers two hours before their scheduled shifts. You can also mass text volunteers through the Announcements pane. Replies to text messages can either be setup to go to a fixed number of your choosing, or in the case of reminders, you can optionally setup replies to go to all the other volunteers that are scheduled at that time!

There is a $0.02 charge for each message sent or received. There are no monthly fees or setup costs, and we'll give you 100 free text messages so you can try out these features at no cost! To get started, click the button below. When the balance runs out, you can replenish your account to continue using the SMS features.

Click "Open SMS account now" to open your account and receive the 100 free text messages.

Once your account is open, you can send text messages as long as you have credit in your account. You have the choice to replenish your account automatically or to be sent an email to manually add more money to the account when your account gets down to $5.

On this page, you can also download your text message history for a month to check and see the date, message, and recipient for each message sent or received.

If you decide to no longer use text messaging, there is no need to close your account. Turn off the automatic text message reminders in the Web Terminal Settings of VSP, and make sure you are set to manually renew when you get below $5.
